SCR_2009Merrifield Student Council 2009

Student Representative Council Report

The following students represented Merrifield and their fellow students on the 2009 Student Representative Council that year:

Nicholas Fleischman and Noni Kunene (co-heads) Aimee’- Kate Bosch, Jonathan Cowie, Ilse Reid, Ryan Armstrong, Katherine Wolk, Chris Fielding, Malwande Pasiya, Nakisa Pasiya, Megan Preston, Hlehle Mahanjana, Alex Rossouw and Lazola Nyamakazi.

Through hard work, dedication and a pride for their school, the SRC of 2009 has once again managed to further improve the quality of school life at Merrifield. The SRC has organised many events and functions throughout the year that have improved the already very strong bonds between Merrifield’s students.

At the beginning of the year, the newly formed council of 2009 met at a leadership camp, courtesy of the Wolk family, to plan their many ideas for the year and to bond together to form a very efficient Student body. Just before the school year began, the SRC held an orientation afternoon at the school to help break the ice for the new students in the college. At the end of the first week, the SRC also took the new students on a camp to Elizweni to further help the new students bond together.

The SRC started their events schedule off with a very successful Valentines social with an 80’s theme to it. To further spread the love, the SRC held a valentines gift exchange day, in which every student gave another student in the school a special gift. Through the course of the year, the SRC organised a number of other enjoyable functions and events. The SRC had everyone scrambling for eggs around the school in an Easter hunt, relaxing to some good movies at the DVD Evening at the school and showing their competitive spirits at the Inter-grade volleyball and Rugby day. The SRC’s Merrifield Masked Ball was an especially exceptional social. Almost all students from Grade 9 to 12 appeared in their most formal outfits, wearing fancy masks to support the exciting and unique evening.

Besides socials and events, the SRC also greatly contributed to the school by being part of numerous decision making processes, such as those involving the new sports uniform and the new Merits system.

Congratulations to all the SRC members for an amazing job this year and we hope that many of you will appear on the SRC again next year. An especially big thank you to Jayne Cansfield for all her guidance involving the SRC this year and also thank you to Andre De Klerk for being a part of our council. We couldn’t do without you.  It has been a lot of fun serving the council and good luck to the new SRC of 2010 – Your lovable co- heads, Nick and Noni.

SRC Mission Statement of 2009: ‘As your student representative council of 2009, we will instil pride, respect and unity within Merrifield College.’
