Annual report of the Parent Liaison Committee (PLC) for 2009

PLC Chairlady

The end of the 2009 school year seems to have come around so quickly and may be an indication of how busy the PLC has been during the year.

At the beginning of the year, it was decided to re look at the PLC constitution, which was outdated.  The new constitution has been passed by the board and will be on the school website shortly.

Another new addition to the PLC was the introduction of sub committees to head up the various activities and events that take place at our school. For example, the sub committee for the book exchange will look after this exciting new venture which will enable our parents to purchase second hand text books for their children and get paid for relevant text books which they have used the previous year.

Funds raised from the 2008 big walk were put to good use by purchasing sides for the Merri Lapa, making it an ideal venue in any weather conditions! A water cooler was also purchased for the office. The students did an amazing job again this year and the big walk raised in excess of R40 000 for the school.  Decisions are still being made as to how to put the funds to good use.

Other events that required the PLC assistance were the Music picinic, Tavern evening, Dare to Dance evening, and the Valedictory assembly.  All of these were a wonderful success.

As my last year as a Merrifield mum has come to an end, I would like to thank all the PLC members for their hard work and dedication to our school.  At the same time, I would like to encourage new parents to join the PLC and be a part of the success of our school.  It is guaranteed to be a very rewarding experience.
